It’s a shame that there are those that exploit the services offered in the web. Many of these exploiters happen to be sex offenders. They use these services in luring women, children, teens and adolescents in a none-threatening way. According to reported cases, these internet offenders are definitely thriving.
Parents are advised to learn how the internet works, and what the dangers of it are. It is also advisable to keep the computer away from private rooms, like maybe the living room or the den. Teach the children about safety issues, filtering software and where and to whom to report questionable, malicious or suspicious activity. Make the youth understand that they should never reveal private information about themselves and their family or meet an online friend without a chaperon.
Another way to prevent victimization is to know if there are any offenders in your neighborhood. They may know something about your family, or might have observed your children. There may also be a possibility that they might try to fool them through the use of internet services.
For the youth, both children and teenagers, well, we all know their quest for independence. When it comes to protection, they may react violently, especially when it comes to issues about privacy. Of course, they wouldn’t want their parents to be “fun suckers”, but who’s going to have fun when things get critical?
